Winter Solstice. Ahh, the doldrums of the winter months.
Winter brings forth a time of barren trees, gray colors and a cold and biting wind. It seems that everything is dormant. There appears to be no color except gray including the sky. The last week of autumn also appeared to be lifeless. That’s it. Appearances are our perspective on how we feel and what we see in our frame of reference. We live in a linear society and unfortunately, we are not taught to acknowledge the change of seasons aside from putting on a coat or an extra sweater. As the animal and flower life slows, so must we. Winter is a time of rebirth and renewal.
Microbes and organisms are regenerating to create healthy soil for flowers and trees to bloom again. Sentient animal beings are resting to gain spiritual momentum for mating thus continuing the circle of life. Longer nights without light are just that. It is neither “good” nor “bad”. Let’s focus on breathing in the breath of life to prepare for a beautiful spring. The womb is dark. When life comes out of the womb there is light. We need both. Bring some light into your home this winter season. Hang some string lights or light candles to signify the sun. You can also slice oranges and sprinkle them with cinnamon and bake until dry. Once dry hang them from a window to signify the sun.
